After completing his Diploma in Painting from Assam, he pursued his Master Diploma in Graphics from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University Santiniketan. Once a student of revered printmaker Somnath Hore; Ajit himself has attained extreme dexterity and mastery over the printmaking medium. His prints have a velvet soft appearance that is evocative of the delicacy of watercolors or pastels. It is to his credit that he manages to do large format prints in multi color with such deceptive ease. His imaginative world consists of serene human figures, frail birds and shy tortoises who coexist peacefully shrouded in an ethereal light and shade. Ajit Seal has participated in many shows of National & International importance such as International Mini Print Exhibition, Biennial, Norway / Swasti the Contemporary Art Gallery Bangalore/ Summer Show, CIMA art gallery, Kolkata/ Sixth International Biennial of Print Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal/ International Show of Com-Art-Korea and many others. He was awarded by the All India Exhibition, Hyderabad, All India Graphics & Drawing Exhibition, Chandigarh, Eastern Region Graphics Exhibition by AIFACS, Assam, Lokmanya Tilak, Pune among many others. His works can be found in the collections of Chandigarh Museum, Manipur Museum Governor House, Assam, Egypt Museum, Govt. of Assam Assembly House, Embassy of Israel & Many other Private collections in India & abroad.
