Rini studiedPainting, M S University Baroda. She has been both a print maker as well as a painter. She has received many awards and scholarships like Chancellors Gold Medal 1972, Governors Gold Medal, Calcutta 1974 Govt. of India Cultural Scholarship, worked under Prof. K G Subramaniam 1973-75, French Govt. Scholarship, worked under Sir S W Hayter at ?Atelier 17?, Paris and Krishna Reddy 1975-76, Group 8 Award 1977, Research Scholarship, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi 1983-85, AIFACS Award, New Delhi 1985, National Award, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, M S Randhawa Award, AIFACS, New Delhi 1988, Senior Fellowship, Ministry of Human Resource, New Delhi 1994-96, Invited to be on the Governing Council of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad 1997. She has recently been a part of prestigious shows like Power of Peace and Imprints at Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo both hosted by Tao art gallery. Painter and printmaker, Rini Dhumal, was born in 1948 in Bengal. She is an MA graduate in Fine Arts (Painting) from the M.S. University of Baroda.She has taken part in several solo shows of her work as well as group shows both in India and abroad including ?Tales of the Prophetess? at the Art Alive Gallery in New Delhi, ?Shakti? at the Arts India in New York, ?The Santiniketan? at Jamaat in Mumbai, and ?Wounds? at the Centre for International Modern Art (CIMA) in Kolkata.Rini strongly believes in art which has its own energy, its own verve ? one that speaks a language that is universal, that captures the fullness of life in all its tones, experiences and contradictions.Colour talks to Rini?shouts her name out loud?. and she listens. It plays a very significant part in her work and is the thread that runs through nature to connect to the world that surrounds her.
