Sham Sunder

Sham Sunder

India
Confirmed artist

Every material has its own identity; its own texture, colour and quality through which it establishes its uniqueness. As an artist Sham Sunder has always believed that one should experiment with new possibilities and innovate new expressions. He is a figurative artist working in various mediums like wood, stone and wire mesh as a sculptor and also in painting and print making. Sham Sunder?s recent paintings reveal an interesting conceptual shift from the earlier works. The external physical manifestation of inner turmoil is essential for Sham as figurative artist. He also displays a remarkable understanding of the risks inherent in easy reductionist approaches to issues like individual agony or social collapse. There are no sentimental outbursts. Each of his works is carefully executed, though at the cost of a certain daring. Sham?s works do not provoke his viewers, instantly. They haunt them over a period of time. Sham?s works have emerged as reaction to human relationships, violence in society and social evils that go in the name of community, culture and tradition. India, in his eyes, becomes a place that is haunted not only by its past but by its present. S. Sham Sunder is a practicing artist; a painter, printmaker and a sculptor. He studied art at Ken School of Arts, Bangalore and Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan. Sham lives in Hyderabad and is teaching at the Post Graduate level at the Hyderabad Central University, India
